Lab science, played for laughs, so kids would stay for the science
X-WOW's founder made short videos that showed real lab technology (centrifuges, microscopes, stains) in an entertaining way, with memes and humour, to get young people into science, especially molecular science. Of the 68 we have dates for, 64 came out between September 2021 and September 2022, while the pandemic was still disrupting school.

For grown-ups: the YouTube links on this page leave X-WOW; YouTube's terms say anyone under 18 needs a parent's or legal guardian's permission, and under-13s may use it only if a parent or legal guardian enables it (YouTube's Terms of Service (UK), 17 March 2025).
The doubt担心
The founder worried that serious academics and professionals would find it silly, or even offensive: a scientist in a panda mask, putting crisps under an electron microscope. Some did, and said so in the comments. It was worth it anyway. The jokes put a microscope in front of people who would never have opened a textbook, and some of them stayed for the science.
What didn't work没成的事
The first time X-WOW re-homed a scanner, to Kenya, it didn't work out. The receiving end had no technical support to keep it running, and it made far less difference than the founder had hoped. That was a lesson about support, not about anyone there: a scanner nobody can service is an expensive ornament. It's why Back to Shine now says "ship the optics, not the stand", and why every X-WOW invention is designed to be easy to run.
What did成了的事
The founder says people still write to say the videos sent them into science; some of them watched as kids, during the pandemic. Those letters stay private. In public, people who say they are scientists or doctors have left kind words in the comments, and others say the videos made them want to study science. That is the part of the mission anyone can check: those comments are public, under the videos.
X-WOW today is the same mission, with inventions instead of videos: show people the invisible, make them laugh if possible, and leave them able to do it themselves.
